Pontypridd 40 : 15 Swansea
Page 2

The sun shone bright at Sardis Road as both teams took to the pitch. A shaky start where Ponty conceded a penalty began to turn with a prolonged attack in the Swansea half. Dacey scored a magnificent try by running from within the Ponty 22 along the touchline. This was converted from wide angle by Pocock. Then within seconds Pontypridd were back on the attack with another try by Damian Welch.

The attack didn't stop there with another try produced by some clever play and stolen possession. Despite a counter attack, the Ponty defence held to gain a 16 points advantage into half time.

Second half grew into a stalemate with both sides pushing for superiority. A high tackle on Jason Pocock led to Swansea losing a man, and Ponty pushed on. The usual case of wounded sides being more dangerous meant that Swansea broke past the Ponty defence to score a try. Kicking woes were a problem for the visitors and no conversion produced.

This didn't trouble the home side though, as Pontypridd maintained a strong offensive that produced a further two tries. Now joined by Dai Flanigan, it looked like the game was in the bag for the home side, only for some quick footwork to give Swansea another 7 points within 10 minutes of the whistle.

Other problems mounted as scrum half Gareth jones was sent off for infringing as Swansea camped out on the Ponty try line. This didn't deter the Sardis Warriors however, and Pontypridd replied with dropping a penalty into the corner, and pushed the lineout pack over for a well deserved (and notebly uncontested) try to put a 25 point difference, and 5 much needed tries to the Pontypridd tally.
