Pontypridd 37 (:) 8 Aberavon
Page 2

In a game that saw the men sorted from the boys (and judging by the hieghts of most of Aberavon's squad, telling the difference is a fine art), Pontypridd got into the swing of things right from the off.

Exactly what Pontypridd needed (and the supporters for that matter), the home side enforced thier dominance in a strong and determined manner. The 1% that seems to matter so much to Pontypridd was there in abundance with stand out tries and exciting, flowing rugby.

Pontypridd led 27-3 at the interval, and it looked as though Aberavon would need to get into gear to get a win. However, the Pontypridd "Can'O'Whoop" was still open and Aberavon could not punch through the solid Pontypridd defence. The Ref helped them to their first try in the dying minutes as the sun went down over Sardis Road. The latter 20 minuites of the match turning into a debacle as the whistle was blown more and more.

A potential try off the back of a beatiful chip was disallowed to go back to a previous Aberavon infringement even though the home team had the advantage was the hallmark, alongside some over zealous yellow cards. The second hald was by far a dissapointment, and Pontypridd were always in control. But once again the Referee was so off the ball he looked as though he was in Cardiff.

Most importantly, this win sees Pontypridd in the upper half of the table, one point behind Aberavon, and one ahead of Neath (much satisfaction derived form the latter...!). With an away win at Swansea on the cards, and a home game to the Wanderers before Christmas, Pontypridd could be top three in the space of two weeks. Fingers crossed, but hopefully Pontypridd are back, and on fire.
