Pontypridd 24 (:) 10 Bedwas

A positive first half and a dull second half, but a solid win that will keep Pontypridd in the firm middle table. But where did Ponty's drive go in the second half?

It looked as though Pontypridd have greased their hands again as the first half shaped up as a game of hot potato! It was pretty thrilling stuff but at the same time worrying as Pontypridd don't seem to be getting the basics right. But the tail end of the first half sees less of the mistakes and more of the attack as Bedwas find it difficult to spend any time in the Ponty end.

The second half started on a stalemate until a breathtaking surge on started by Dafydd Lockyear from within the halfway line was forced through the Bedwas defence by juggernaught prop Nick Eaves. This was passed out wide for Damian Welch to kick off Bedwas' dregs of a defence for a successful try. Lee Burnett's poor kicking thus far did not harm a good conversion.

Bedwas did not take this lying down and pushed hard back but were not quite capable of executing some fine counter attacking play. Bedwas, guilty of crossing, let Ponty off the hook. Adding to the new vigour of the opposition, Pontypridd's defensive kicking was now becoming an issue also. Bedwas fell victim to a dodgy late tackle to which they played advantage meters from the try line. The try was converted and the opposition were now 14 points down from Ponty's 24.

Bedwas maintained control but could not capitalise on Pontypridd's lack of drive (fortunately for Ponty). Full time at Sardis Road, Pontypridd 24 - Bedwas 10.
