Page 3 of 3 Dreams of a third consequetive Cup isit to the Millenium Stadium went down in flames as Pontypridd lost away to Stradey's Scarlets. A sometimes thrilling, but otherwise controversial game saw three yellow cards handed out in the second half and ran to 86 minutes in playing time. But most problematic, was the Llanelli try in the dying minutes of the first half which to my eye, could not have possibly grounded.Nevertheless, drawing Llanelli at home was going to be an uphill struggle for any team, and the short straw was painted black and white. There are going to be some hard questions asked of some of the player's defense, and a worrying problem in that there is not a consistent second kicker in the side. These will have to be worked on for next season, and let's be honest....there will be some vacancies in the ranks for wholesale changes thanks to the Pound Signs from out West. At least the passion of Nathan Strong pulled the team up with heads held high. It might have been a final consolation try, but it was the best one of the match!
In a game that could have been won, Ponty came an extremely close second but the league is still there for the taking. But the bogeyman in Scarlet still has a stranglehold over Sardis Road for another Cup season.
