A 26-year-old rugby player died after being taken ill at a match in Rhondda Cynon Taff on Saturday, reports the BBC...

Alun Mardon died after the league game between Wattstown against Trefil.

Wattstown RFC's secretary Philip Harris said that Mr Mardon, who had been playing as a flanker, had been taken ill at the side of the field.

"He was later taken to the Royal Glamorgan Hospital where he sadly he passed away," he added.

Pontypridd Rugby send their condolences and deepest sympathy to Alun's family and all involved at Wattstown RFC.
