Page 1 of 2 Pontypridd fought and lost to old Cup adversaries Llanelli last night, 18 : 13 at Stradey Park. The result puts an interesting spin on the Principality Premiership on a night when Neath claimed the title by beating Bridgend (who themselves have claimed second place in the table).
Pontypridd sit level with Aberavon and Llanelli with try count edging Ponty ahead. Both the Pandas and the Wizards have three games left to play, while Llanelli have just two. But who can we put bets on? Wanderers got thumped unexpectantly by Drovers (35:15), as did Newport 42:12 at the hands of Cup Semi-final casualties Maesteg (in a relegation battle at the bottom of the table). If we go on form, Pontypridd should then hope to win all of the three final matches although they are away fixtures (Wanderers, Cardiff and Ebbw Vale). This would without a doubt seal third place as Aberavon still have to play Bridgend on top of having a small run of poor results. The game in hand over Llanelli is the breathing space the Ponty need to secure the prize of third (and the extra cash from the WRU to boot).
