Page 1 of 2 The WRU have put out a statement indicating that regardless of the finishing position in the Principality Premiership this season, some clubs will be booted out or prevented going up purely on the status of their grounds. A copy of the statement is printed on the
Ebbw Vale website (incidentally, Ebbw Vale passed the WRU's ground tests).
The statment reads;
"We have undertaken facility and financial audits at all Premiership clubs and the results have now been sent to them. The Division 1 clubs will receive their reports next week. We now have all the information we need to make our judgments as to whether clubs have clearly passed, passed with conditions attached or failed. For those who have clearly failed, and who cannot use the extra time to match up, then they will lose their place in the Premiership next season and be relegated to Division 1 regardless of their finishing position. The same applies to teams in Division 1 who might qualify for promotion. They will only be able to achieve promotion if they meet the criteria."
It would be presumtious to suggest that Pontypridd passed also, and I'm sure they have, but this also means that it was always the intention to structure next seasons Premiership on appearance of clubs opposed to quality of the rugby. Clubs who have been axed (and the WRU statement implies that at one has) must be feeling pretty bad right now if they were secured above 15th in the table.
If anyone has information about which clubs have dropped, please forward it to us at the website.
