Page 1 of 2 To make the game more interesting, it started to rain during the interval but both sides came out guns blazing. Some tight defensive work by Newport kept Ponty out. The second wave went to ponty's favour after an infringment gave Pocock the chance to show off his new kicking boots that were left in the changing room during the first half.
Within minutes of this Newport delivered a late tackle to winger Chris Clayton which Pocock once again successfully scored.
The rain then pelted down, and neither side held a dominant position. Newport lost a man to dangerous play, but found theselves being pinned into their own 22. A defensive kick broke the mould and led to Newport infringing once again. Pocock punished then with another 3 points. The referee's intention to punish those with sticky fingers was more evident now than before.
Newport were still dangerous and proved it by making a two man overlap count with a try resulting. Within 2 points of drawing, Pontypridd infringed and Newport capitolised with a successful penalty. Newport led by 1 point, 14 points to 15.
The tide turned at this point leading to some sloppy play by Ponty and in the dying minutes Newport scored the final try and conversion, winning 22 points to 14.
