Under 17's Pontypridd  24 - 7  Bath

On Sunday 6^th November the Pontypridd under 17s team took on Bath in a home tie played at Cilfynydd.

 Pontypridd made the best of the very soggy conditions to out play Bath in this keenly contested match that referee Steven Dando (Rhydyfelin) did well to keep the lid on.

Lewis Hale the Ponty No 8 opened the scoring with a typical break through the Bath ranks. That try went unconverted but this was followed soon after by a well taken try by Ian Fisher near the posts that was converted by Craig Davies. Impressive in the loose for Pontypridd was prop Liam Davies with his high work rate.  At half time the score was Pontypridd 12 Bath 0.

Bath brought on a number of replacements during the interval that strengthened their pack but that didn’t stop Ponty hooker Scott Pritchard from taking two scrums against the head.  Although Bath had a number of very tall forwards they were unable to dominate the line-out and from the breakdown at one such set piece, Ponty full back Andrew Bevan joined the line with a searing run down the wing where his inside pass found Ian Fisher who went over to score a fine try that was converted by Craig Davies.

Shortly after in another break-out by the Ponty backs Craig Davies scored a try  out wide which he was unable to convert.  Relaxing a little too much on their lead, Ponty allowed a good Bath movement with handling by both backs and forwards to allow  Lee Jennings to cross under the posts and this try was converted by Sam Hewitt.  Spurred on by this success Bath went on renewed attacks but crunching tackles from Ponty back rowers Lewis Hale and Mark Palmer nullified any further progress.

The final score of Pontypridd 24 - Bath 7 was an accurate reflection of this keenly fought contest and the Ponty boys are looking forward to the return in Bath in a few weeks time.
