Page 1 of 2 Under 16's Pontypridd 43 - 12 Penarth RFC Report to follow...The Under 16's travelled to Penarth on Sunday 27th November, using the opportunity to give some much needed match practice to some of the junior squad members and players returning from injury.
In a hard fought game against spirited opposition, Ponty eventually ran out winners by 43 points to 12, scoring seven quality tries in the process. Man of the match was wing Owain Kingsbury who capped an excellent display with a well worked try, and was outstanding in defence, when in the second half the Penarth half backs peppered him with a series of towering up and unders, all of which he took in brilliant fashion, earning well deserved applause from both sets of spectators. Try of the match was scored by flying wing Stephen "Greyhound" Parker, who ran in from half way after excellent approach work from Fly half Lewis Smith, and blindside flanker Ben Miles, who in a great piece of support playskill, plucked a pass off his bootlaces, to feed Parker the scoring pass. Once again the big Ponty Forwards were outstanding, with Marc Jones, Nathanial Williams, James Sullivan and Richard 'Rhino' Powell [brother of Adam] crossing the gain linetime after time, and causing havoc in the Penarth defence. Scrum half Rhys Ashman was very unlucky not to add to the scoring, going close on two occasions, the latter an excellent piece of opportunism, when he took a quick tap penalty when the Penarth players were retreating toward the try line expecting Ponty to kick at goal, and was only denied by the corner flag. Special mention must go to James Sullivan and Dan Jordan who were playing against a number of their school mates and former Vale of Glamorgan District colleagues, and really rose to the occasion. Sullivan was acting captain for the day to give the outstanding Dean Maissey a well earned break, and his leadership on the day was a great motivator to the rest of the team. Well done lads and good luck for your coming game against the Worcester Rugby academy under 16's. Add as favourites (30) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 1062
