UNDER 14's Pontypridd 20 - 21 Pentyrch

An outstanding performance in a tightly contested match In difficult conditions both sides produced entertaining and committed rugby, saw Ponty just miss out on a moral boosting victory over the Cardiff & Vale District Champions.

Pontypridd started the better of the two teams and for the first ten minutes were camped in the Pentyrch half with the forwards giving a solid platform for the backs to attack, only excellent defending from Pentyrch prevented any score. Pentyrch then took the game to Pontypridd and went over for two unconverted tries in quick succession.

The Ponty pack stepped up a gear and the pressure told when the away side gave away a penalty that Jordan Jevons successfully converted. From the restart the Ponty forwards took the game to Pentyrch and captain Michael Connor barged over for a try that was converted by Jordan Kemp, but with two minutes left before the break, Pentyrch were awarded a penalty that they converted to give the Cardiff champions a halftime lead of three points. Half time: Pontypridd 10 - 13 Pentyrch.

The second half began with Pentyrch on the attack and they went over for an early-unconverted try that extended their lead. After ten minutes of nervous game play, the game started to flow as the middle period of the second half produced some flowing rugby by both sides. Eventually Ponty finally broke down the flank for Jordan Knill to go over for his first try for the club that went unconverted.

Pentyrch soon hit back with a penalty, but with five minutes to go Ponty found themselves camped on the Pentyrch line and after a disallowed try, Jordan kemp finally ripped through the defence and went over in the corner for the try, but the conversion drifted wide just as the referee blew for full time.

TRY Scorers for Pontypridd: Michael Connor, Jordan Knill and Jordan Kemp. Jordan Kemp kicked one conversion and Jordan Jevons kicked a penalty.

Man of the match for Pontypridd: Michael Connor
