UNDER 14’s Pontypridd 12 – 5 Abercynon

A slow start by Ponty saw Abercynon take control of the early exchanges as Ponty were unable to clear their lines. A loose ball in the Ponty twenty-two saw Abercynon pounce to claim the opening try that went unconverted. As the half progressed the Ponty pack started to win more ball.

From a lineout on the halfway quick hands and fine passing from the backs saw winger Josh ‘Ted’ Edwards sprint clear to score under the posts for an easy conversion by Jordan Kemp. Half time score: 7–5 to Pontypridd.

The second half again saw a close contest with neither side giving any quarter. As the half progressed the Ponty pack began to gain the upper hand and were awarded a penalty just inside the opposition twenty-two. Quick thinking by Alex Knowles saw him take the tap and dive in the corner for an unconverted try.

In the closing stages Abercynon upped their performance as they tried to level the scores, but excellent defence by the entire Ponty team held them out for a moral boosting win for the young valley commandos who were missing both regular half-backs.
