Page 1 of 2 UNDER 13’s Pembroke Dock Harlequins 24 – 17 Pontypridd A lovely day out to the west coast in beautiful sunshine proved a tough encounter for this young Pontypridd side that were missing 13 players and had no recognised outside-half available.
A slow start by Pontypridd resulted in Pembroke taking an early lead, but from the resultant restart, quick ball from the Pontypridd forwards saw the back line move the ball out to winger Garin Rossiter who raced over for a try that he converted himself. The larger Pembroke dock forwards then imposed themselves on the match and this resulted in the home side crossing over for three fine tries with one conversion. To give them credit, this Ponty side did not let their heads drop and took the game to the home side, but strong defensive work from Pembroke saw them take a 17 point lead into halftime. The second half saw a resurgent Pontypridd who kept the hosts out and put them under immense pressure. Eventually the pressure told as they breached the Pembroke line with Jake Lewis going over for an unconverted try. This spurred the Ponty team on and with only minutes to go the ball went out to Alex Knowles who went past two defenders to score, but with no recognised kicker the conversion again went wide as the referee blew up for full time.
