Page 1 of 2 Mixed results for our youngest development side saw an excellent opportunity to play development games and to gain valueable playing experience.
Pontypridd U8s 10 - 40 Bridgend Athletic U8s.
Pontypridd came up against their toughest opponents so far this season. Bridgend were much quicker in rushing up as soon as Pontypridd had tapped the ball from a set piece. This tactic kept Ponty on the back foot, this resulted in the lads running backwards too much, in an effort to try to run around them. But Bridgend were good at tagging and Pontypridd ended up losing ground each time.
Try Scorers Lucas Hickman (1), Gruffydd Lloyd (1).
Pontypridd Development Under 7's 10 - 30 Bridgend Athletic Development
This game had a similar pattern to the under 8 match as Bridgend were clearly well versed at rushing up in a line to attack Pontypridd in every set piece. This had the effect of pressurising the Pontypridd line which resulted in some passes going a 'little' forward !! Try scorer Callum Pearce (2).
Pontypridd Development 20 - 10 Bridgend Athletic Development.
With both team fielding large squads, an opportunity to play a third game arose and the lads were well up for it. It seems as though they need a couple of games to get into their stride, as this game was completely different from the previous two. The passing was better as was the tagging.
Try scorers Lucas Hickman (1), Rhys Grainger (2) and Harley Jones (1).
All in all a good morning was had by all. Thanks to all the parents for taxi-ing their children all the way down to Bridgend, which allowed us to put on the third game as there was so many of them. Thanks also to the Barnes Family who phoned Real Radio and got the mini rugby section a good luck message played over the airwaves.
Tour money raised today by the U8s section = £20.60.
