Page 1 of 3 Ponty wow a record crowd at the Arms Park! No, you are not reading the wrong headline - Pontypridd Under 8’s played in the half time interval of the match between Cardiff Blues and the Dragons on the 27th December and had a great match.
We believe that the 13,000 in the crowd came to see our boys get back to their winning ways and the mighty Jonah Lomu could be seen cheering the boys on from the tunnel The game got off to a flying start, with the team pushing the opposition back and keeping them well within their own half. There were great tags taken early on, even though there were some flyers darting around. Gruffyd Lloyd had a brilliant run around the outside of the defence and straight down the touchline only to be brought back by the ref as he was tagged just yards from the line. The boys then tried one of their many moves that the coaches have been practising with them, one a scissors move from a tap ball which left all the defence just standing there and watching as Rhodri Smith ran over for a great try. The team's second try came when Callum Pearce outran the defence and showed great turn of speed to touchdown in the corner. Lucas Hickman showed that he was back in top form after being ill recently, with a superb run straight through the middle of the defence that resulted in the third try. Gwernyfed played gallantly throughout the match and deserved their late try, but did not threaten Pontypridd’s lead at any time. Pontypridd’s under 8’s team gained a well deserved victory of 15 - 5. Thanks to all the parents, not only from the under 8’s section, but the under 9’s, 10’s and 12’s who came along and supported the boys in a match that surely will stick in their minds for years to come. We raised a grand total of £110 for the Scotland tour from bus ticket sales and also a raffle run by Diane Barnes and Marcia Morris. Thanks Diane and Marcia! The team was missing one of their key players, Mason Pritchard, who damaged his foot in a motorbike accident on Christmas Day. Get well soon Mason, everyone involved with the team hope to see you back in training soon... Add as favourites (50) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 2756
