Ponty kicked off and secured good ball from the maul but were pushed into touch just short of the Nelson try line. Nelson kicked from their own 22 which was gathered by Adam Ashford who ran it back at the opposition only to be pushed into touch. Nelson has a scrum in their 22 and a well worked move on the blind side saw the Nelson winger streak up the right touchline only to be hauled down from behind by a try saving tackle from Jasper Powell. Ponty secured the ruck ball and Mason Pritchard put a big kick up field which Adam Ashford chased and tackled the Nelson winger, Ponty secured the ball and a driving maul saw Greggor McKain dive over for the game’s first try. Mason Pritchard converted. Nelson came back into the game but good tackling from Ponty held them out. Ponty had a scrum in their own 22 and a blind side move saw Adam Ashford go the length of the field to score. Half-time score Pontypridd 12 - 0 Nelson. The second half started with Ponty on the attack and wing Morgan Burgess broke through the Nelson defence for a great try. Another great move saw Jasper Powell break from the back of the maul only to be tackled just short of the line. Nelson never gave up and continued to run at the Ponty defence, one incident saw one of their big forwards carry the ball up the middle only to be stopped abruptly by Callum Pearce and from the loose ball Ponty passed along the backs but were held up short. Ponty had a scrum in the Nelson 22 and scrum half Callum Pearce had a sniping run only to be tackled 10 yards out, the forwards secured good ball and a good passing move along the backs should have resulted in a try but the last pass went astray. Nelson kicked from their own 22 and Morgan Burgess collected and ran it back but was well tackled, the ball was secured well by the forwards and a slick move through the backs saw Mason Pritchard skate over for a try in the corner.
