Page 2 of 2 Pontypridd Under 10’s v Brecon Under 10’s The sun was shining on this crisp Sunday morning and the entire crowd was still smiling after last nights results. The boys were up for the game playing on the hallowed turf of Sardis road.
The game started with Brecon kicking off which was fielded by Shawn Bowditch who passed the ball to Morgan Burgess who powered up the line only to be pushed into touch. Ponty were penalized for hands in the ruck but from Brecon’s quick tap penalty Shawn Bowditch read the pass and intercepted the ball and ran the length of the field to score. Converted by Lewis Allen. Brecon came back at Ponty but their defense held strong. Brecon continued their pressure but for all their possession they could not break through. Ponty then had a ten-meter defensive scrum and a quick pass by Callum Pearce to the blind side saw try machine Morgan Burgess fly up the line to score. Converted by Lewis Allen Half Time: Ponty under 10’s 14 Brecon Under 10’s 0 The second half started with Ponty kicking off and Brecon got straight onto the front foot but again Ponty showed their strength in defense and stole the ball only for Lewis Allen to be tackled into touch. From the line out Brecon marched up the field and finally crossed the Ponty line for a well-deserved try which was also converted. Brecon continued to exert pressure on Ponty’s line but excellent defense from the pack especially Adam (ox) Morris and Greggor McCain kept them at bay. From a five meter scrum Brecon broke on the blind side to score, the try was converted to bring the game level with little under 5 minutes to play. Ponty pulled themselves up and came at Brecon but their defense was also strong. Ponty conceded a penalty and Brecon advanced up field but the ball was ripped out by Morgan Burgess who jinked through Brecon’s attempted tackles and gained good ground but the ball was eventually lost forward. With the last move of the match Brecon inched closer to Ponty’s line but a last ditch tackle saw the Brecon player bundled into touch inches from the line. Another tough game for the boys but they dug in well and tackled their hearts out until the final whistle. This week the coaches decided on 2 man of the match awards, Callum Pearce for his first half display and Rhys Grainger for his versatility as although normally a lock he filled in at centre for the first half before reverting to his normal position in the second half.
