Page 2 of 2 After a few weeks with no games due to the bad weather the boys were rearing to go even on this bitter cold December morning. The team suffered a set back before kick off when Gethin Llywellyn had to pull out due to illness.
The game started with Pontyclun kicking off. The ball was caught by Greggor McCain who took the ball up field and then set up a maul, the ball was recycled quickly and given to the backs where slick hands saw the ball in Lucas Hickman’s hands who flew up field like a whippet but was tackled 10 meters out, the Ponty forwards rucked over quickly and a pick up and drive saw Ponty over the line only to be held up. From the scrum quick ball saw scrum half Liam Morton race over for the games first try. Converted by Mason Pritchard. Before the crowd had time to quieten down the Ponty boys were at it again, firstly Greggor McCain fielded the kick off and set it back on a plate for the backs who again showed lovely hands (even though they probably couldn’t feel their fingers) and released Lucas Hickman who this time went the length of the field to score. Converted by Mason Pritchard. Ponty continued to dominate and good work from backs and forwards saw Morgan Burgess go over for his customary try which was again converted by Mason Pritchard. Pontyclun tried hard but just couldn’t get out of their own half due to the ferocious tackling from the Ponty boys. Ponty yielded a penalty but a poor kick from Pontyclun saw the ball land in Mason Pritchard’s hands who ran it back hard only to be tackled just short of the line but Ponty’s dynamic hooker Greggor McCain was on hand to pick up and dive over. Converted by Mason Pritchard. Pontyclun came back at Ponty late in the first half with a succession of attacks but good Ponty defence kept them out. Half Time: Pontypridd 28 Pontyclun 0 Ponty started the second half and immediately got on to the front foot putting pressure on the Pontyclun player who spilled the ball and Lucas Hickman was on hand to pick up the ball to score. Converted by Mason Pritchard. To their credit Pontyclun never gave up and a good move finally saw them breach the Ponty defence to score which they also converted. The game then got a bit scrappy with a lot of dropped balls which was obviously due to very cold hands. With the game nearing the end Ponty had a scrum on the Pontyclun 5 meter line and quick ball saw Morgan Burgess go over for the games final try which he converted himself. Final Score: Pontypridd 42 Pontyclun 7 Scorers Tries: Lucas Hickman 2, Morgan Burgess 2, Greggor McCain, Liam Morton Conversions: Mason Pritchard 5, Morgan Burgess Team; Jasper Powell (c), Ben Kondella, Adam Morris, Greggor McCain, Rhys Grainger, Liam Morton, Mason Pritchard, Morgan Burgess, Adam Ashford, Lucas Hickman Add as favourites (51) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 1256
