Under 8’s Abergavenny 15 – 25 Pontypridd Ponty ramp up the pressure with a great away win after an early morning start, a two hour bus ride and near freezing conditions, but nothing could dampen the boys spirit this Sunday. This was always going a tough match and Abergavenny didn't let us down. The game was played at a very fastpace, with great runs from Lucas "watch the touchline" Hickman and Gruff Lloyd. Mason Pritchard started the scoring off with a well worked try and some great support play. This was quickly followed by a brilliant run from Gruff who was caught just before the line. The resulting tap to Rhys "the steam train" Grainger saw him sprint over the line for a good try. Rhys' second try was a sight to behold. He charged through the defence, jinking and side stepping and gave a mad dash to the line lit up the crowd when he went over. Lucas finished the game off with a typical pitch length sprint that left Abergavenny standing, and despite one of their faster lads closing in on Lucas, he crossed the line for a superb try. Despite this, Abergavenny put in a good performance and played right up to the final whistle, when the Ponty crowd visibly gasped a sigh of relief. Try scorers - Lucas Hickman (2), Rhys Grainger (2), Mason Pritchard (1).

Under 8’s Development Abergavenny 15 – 15 Pontypridd
A good performance from the team saw them come away with a draw today. . Rhys 'Little' Britton made his parents day when he went over for a try in the corner to open up the scores. The tagging and passing on both sides was a joy to watch, as was the try scored by Josh Barnes. Rhys Grainger came on as sub at half time and literally jumped, hopped and sprinted straight through the defence for a great try. Abergavenny had some good periods of play and held us to a deserved draw.

Pontypridd dominated throughout on a heavy pitch, scoring three tries through Dillon Lewis and a conversion apiece from Harry Walton and Kai Perry. Man of the match: Jordan Palmer. Under 10’s Dev. Abergavenny 0 – 7 Pontypridd Pontypridd try scorer was Kai Perry and converted by Josh Phillips. Under 12's Abergavenny 17 - 7 Pontypridd Abergavenny started brightly, putting Pontypridd under early pressure and were deserving of an early try by their giant wing who barged his way through some lacklustre tackling to score. This appeared to wake up the Pontypridd players who until that point had appeared lethargic in their play. It was a case of honours even for the rest of the first half, with Pontypridd’s pack dominant up front, but Abergavenny’s huge backs dominant in the open play. Though the smaller Pontypridd backs tackled their hearts out and kept their bigger opponents on the back foot with some excellent rush defence. Their impressive defence led to several turnovers, one of which saw the excellent fly-half Joel Raikes sprint away to score under the posts, only to be called back for a foot in touch, much to the dismay of the away supporters. The half ended with a bit of luck for Abergavenny as a dropped ball by Pontypridd behind their own try line was seized upon for an easy score by an Abergavenny player for a first half lead of 12 – 0 to Abergavenny.
The second half started with Pontypridd in the ascendancy and controlling almost every facet of play, but it was Abergavenny who would score the first points of the half. A defensive maul just outside their own twenty-two saw the Pontypridd pack feed the ball back only to find an opposition player standing where their outside-half should be and the ball was gratefully accepted as he sprinted away to score unopposed under the posts despite the offside protestations from the Pontypridd players and supporters. This gave Abergavenny a lead of 17 – 0, but this is a resilient Pontypridd side and the lads never stopped playing. Their efforts were rewarded with a well worked forwards try by the ever grinning Gareth Cleaver that was successfully converted by Joel Raikes. But despite Pontypridd’s best efforts the match ended with an unlucky defeat in a game that they would normally have won. On the day Abergavenny were very impressive and clearly had some excellent and huge players, but with a bit more luck on the day it could have seen a completely different result for what was a dominant Pontypridd side.
