Under 8's Pontypridd 15 - 25 Aberdare

The under 8's came up against some stiff opposition. The boys had a tough match, one of their toughest, with Aberdare's strong straight running causing difficulties.  Pontypridd seemed at times a little dazed by these tactics, being slow to regroup and face the opposition when the play stopped.  this allowed Aberdare to quickly pass the ball and as such caught us cold at times.  There were some good periods of excellent handling play from Pontypridd, with the young players becoming ever more comfortable with the ball and passing before contact or getting tagged.  Two good tries from Lucas Hickman and another from Rhys Grainger brought Pontypridd back in the game, but it proved too late for a winning comeback.

Try scorers for Pontypridd: Lucas Hickman (2) and Rhys Grainger.

Under 8’s Development Pontypridd 25 - 30 Aberdare Development

In a cracker of a game Pontypridd Development produced a fine display of open attacking rugby in which every member of the team took part. Aberdare were once again very sharpe and a lot more switched on and focused for this game taking quick tap penalties and catching our defence napping and taking the lead with two tries in two minutes. As the game went on
Pontypridd woke up and started to play a little and took Aberdare 6 tags on several occasions. Some quick thinking by Mason Pritchard on Pontypridd's last tag saw him throw out a long pass to Man of the Match Owain Morris who run in at the corner.  Another fine move involving strong running from the on fire Rhys Grainger and good link work enable to Owain Morris to sprint clear for his second try.

Aberdare can back strong and scored another 3 tries to take the score to 25-10. The second half started well with Ponty really going for it and a superb try by Josh Barnes who run down the wing, side stepped the defence and sprinted into the corner. This was followed by another try where by Jay Jones showed a great turn of speed to beat the Aberdare defence and score his first try of the season. Great handling skills by Pontypridd lead to a break and Josh Barnes was once again on hand to run into the corner for his second try. The game was now 25-25 and with only a minute left we all thought the game was over only for Aberdare to launch one last attack and score on their last tag to seal victory 25-30.

Although a loss Pontypridd played very well and never give in and the development games are proving invaluable as younger players such as Kilan Mahoney, Christopher Temple and Jay Jones are gaining much needed playing time and the improvement in their playing ability is evident to all those who watch them.

Pontypridd Try scorers: Josh Barnes (2), Owain Morris (2) and Jay Jones.

Under 9's Pontypridd 45 - 20 Aberdare

Try scorers for Pontypridd: James Stallard (3), Jordan Powell, Rowan Thomas, Chris John, Luke Deeley and Charlie Phillips.

Man of the Match with a hatrick was James Stallard.

Under 10's Pontypridd 33 - 21 Aberdare

The under 10's continued their recent run of form with a well deserved victory against a well organised Aberdare side.  Early powerful runs in a man of the match performance from Dillon Lewis resulted in a try for himself and one for Mathew Austin who's support work was excellent.  Dillon went on to score a derserved hatrick and again was the creator for Harry Walton to go over to score a try to go with his four wonderful conversions.  But when it looked as if the game was all over, Aberdare hit back, showing great spirit to score three late tries of their own that were well deserved.

Try scorers for Pontypridd were Dillon Lewis (3), Mathew Austin and Harry Walton.  Harry Walton also kicked four conversions.

Man of the match with his hatrick was Dillon Lewis.
