Page 2 of 2 Pontypridd Schools Under 15's recorded a fine home win over old rivals Cardiff in their traditional Boxing Day fixture at Sardis Road, the first time they have done so in the past seven seasons.
True to their recent record, the capital city team came out all guns blazing for the game, with the first half being a closely contested affair, and Ponty just maintaining a lead of 5 pts to 0. In the second period however Pontypridd began to dominate and were well worthy of their final score advantage of 16 pts to 0. Scorers for Pontypridd: Aron Atkin and captain Gavin Jones with a try apiece, and outside half Joshua Jones with two successful penalty kicks. The Pontypridd team will parade the trophy that came with the win over Cardiff before the premiership fixture between the two clubs in the premiership on Saturday 31st December at Sardis Road. This has so far been a successful season for the Pontypridd Schools team, who have reached the quarter final stage of the Dewar Shield competition. Pontypridd have so far accounted for Vale of Glamorgan, Islwyn, Blaenau Gwent, Pembrokeshire and South Powys, and will have high hopes of going one step better than last season, to claim the national Dewar Shield crown.
