As a fanatical Pontypridd supporter, I am very shocked at Ruddock's departure. The family reasons issue is a red herring - the World Cup is in France and Wales do not need to relocate to anywhere else for preparation and training, and so this doesn't really hold weight with me. The problem is that player solidarity has undermined Ruddock's authority. Once this happened, I believe Mike to be the sort of person to not let this slide further, and to leave before the players think they can do or say what they like when they feel affronted. I really hope Scott Johnson decides to stay through to the World Cup. He is a vital aspect, and this could well offer the role he wants, and it is certainly a step up from the assistant role with the Wallabies he has been mooted for.
