Page 2 of 2 Goodfield's Commandos struggle against an aggressive French…
Early pressure by France gives a warning of what’s to come, but a good steal by Adam Powell with his first touch of the game eases the pressure for Wales. A fantastic break by Rhys Shellard leads to a period of sustained pressure by Wales in the French twenty-two, only for them to be denied by continued turn-over ball by France. Wales completely dominate both possession and territory during the first quarter of the match, but excellent French defence keeps it to a stalemate until the 19th minute when quick ball to the backs sees Aled Brew go over for a fantastic team try. The try seems to enthuse the French and start to put Wales under continuing pressure that eventually leads to a try by their centre on the 32nd minute that was successfully converted. as half time approaches Wales start to regain continuity and eventually the French concede a penalty that Dai Flannagan gratefully converts on the half-time whistle for a lead at the break of 8-7 to Wales. the second half started scrappily by both sides and that is more or less the tale of the second half. france take an early lead after a breakaway try by their hooker on the 47th minute that was again successfully converted. throughout the rest of the half it is France who continue to increase the pressure and eventually Wales concede a penalty that gives France a lead of 17 - 8. despite the best efforts of the Welsh team that was how the game would end.
