Page 2 of 2 David Flannigan will start at No 10 for Wales in their Under-21 Six Nations clash with Italy at Rodney Parade on Friday night (kick-off 7.10 pm)...Along side him will be Tom Riley, Duane Goodfield, Adam Powell, Rhys Shellard and now Chris Dicomedis. | | |
The Pontypridd and Blues Academy fly half takes over from James Hook against the young Azzurri as Hook has gone Down Under to Melbourne with the Wales Sevens squad for the Commonwealth Games next week. Flannigan features among the four changes made to the starting line-up who pipped Ireland 14-13, making it two wins from three outings after their four-try 34-24 victory over Scotland and 26-18 defeat by England. Full back Aled Thomas (Newport/Dragons Academy), wing Aled Brew (Neath/Ospreys Academy) and flanker Adam Powell (Pontypridd/Blues Academy) also start against Italy with Bath Rugby centre Tom Cheesman appearing in the national Under-21 squad for the first time as a replacement. Adam Powell has proven a huge influence at Sardis Road this season and is deserving of his place, as are the ever improving Duane Goodfield and Rhys Shellard who have excited the Ponty faithful in recent seasons. Whilst Dai Flanagan has proven to be an important lynchpin for the Pontypridd midfield, especially when playing beside his Ponty team mate Tom Riley. WhilstWill Jones (Newport, Dragons Academy) comes in for the injured Alun Wyn. Pontypridd’s very own Chris Dicomedis comes onto the bench. With their performances for Pontypridd this season, all the players mentioned could be debuting for the senior team one day soon... The Sardis faithful wish them all the best of luck...
