A Plea from Holland - We are looking for families to host our boys from Friday 28 April until Monday 1 May... Our objective of the tour is:
- Expose our youth players to local culture;
- Get to know the local people and customs;
- Pay honour to the Welsh divisions that liberated ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 1944.
- PLAY AND LIVE RUGBY !!!
I am writing to you on behalf of Rugby club The Dukes from ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Holland (www.dukesrugby.nl]). We are one of the larger clubs of the Netherlands. Our first team plays in the Dutch premier league.
We also have a large youth section. Since we believe rugby should be more than just a sport and for our young players in particular, we put specific emphasis on determination, resilience, solidarity and team spirit. Qualities they will need in day-to-day live too.
Within 3 weeks we are coming to visit Pontypridd. We will play Rugby, and live the Welsh life for one weekend.
Our objective of the tour is:

For the past five years, we have visited Peterborough, Datchworth, Gallway (Ireland) Viry-Chatillion (France) and Bergamo (Italy). Each tour has been a great success and continuing, international friendships have resulted from these trips.
We are looking for families to host our boys For the past tours, we have been able to arrange for (most of) the players to stay with local families. This not only reduces costs but most and for all is an excellent way to get to know local people and customs.
During our visit in December to Pontypridd we asked various trainers and officials we spoke, whether it will be a problem to host our boys in families. All trainers and officials we spoke told us there was no problem at all. Please met ask you to NOT set your own “hospitality standard” too high. Let me tell you that all dry places are fine, as long as the family itself is a “warm place to be”. Suitable sleeping places are:
Barns, chicken houses, dog houses, kitchens, cellars, garages, living rooms and eventually bedrooms as well. All boys will bring an air mattress and a sleeping bag. A “warm and hospital” family is much more important than a nice bedroom. In previous trips we did sleep indeed in garages and kitchens and much of these boys had a better time than those who slept in real beds. Do not worry about transportation problems. We have 2 coaches and can them let them drive circles through Pontypridd, to pick up boys on various meeting points (street corners). I also would like to repeat the obligation that the Pontypridd youth section has: Your obligation: We have to inform you that your youth is OBLIGED, to pay us back with a visit, get to know our hospitality, taste our food and play our rugby. No escape possible !! J THANKS again for all your trouble! We are looking forward to the weekend and meeting you all.
