Page 2 of 2 Wales sevens side Win Bowl Competition for second week in a row in George Sevens (SA) after winning the Bowl Competition last week in Dubai.
Wales marked their return to the IRB World Sevens Series stage by winning the Bowl in both the Dubai tournament last week and in the George Sevens this weekend. Richie Pugh's side swept all before them in the third tier competition for the second week in a row, Wales comfortably accounted for Namibia in the Bowl quarter final, 41-0, before a tough game against Zimbabwe 22-19 in the semi-final. That left a final shoot-out against Portugal whom they defeated 34-14 to win the Bowl. Friday's George Sevens Pool A results: Wales 33 - 21 Argentina Wales 7 - 31 New Zealand Argentina 54 - 0 Kenya New Zealand 41 - 0 Kenya Wales 36 - 0 Kenya Argentina 14 - 0 New Zealand Wales were unfortunate to lose out on a place in Saturday’s Cup Quarter Finals after a major upset by Argentina over New Zealand. As a result Wales once again find themselves in the quarter final of the Bowl competition, the same competition that they won in Dubai last week. Saturday's Bowl Quarter Finals: A. Scotland 36 - 5 Kenya Saturday's Bowl Semi-Finals: Wales 22 - 19 Zimbabwe Portugal 45 - 7 Scotland Bowl Final Wales 34 - 14 Portugal Pontypridd RFC were represented by scrum half Wayne Evans who had a good tournament in Dubai and our flanker Rhys Shellard who has been called up as a late replacement for the George Sevens. Jamie Roberts (Cardiff Blues) and Rhys Shellard (Pontypridd RFC/Cardiff Blues) replace Gareth Baber and Jonathan Edwards for the George Sevens.
