Page 1 of 2 UNDER 19'S WALES 48 - 10 SCOTLAND Wales made it two wins in as many games at U19 level last night by virtue of beating Scotland at the Talbot Athletic Ground, Aberavon.
Having beaten off the challenge of England seven days ago, the added Scotland to the list thanks to eight tries, including two from the impressive full back Martyn Thomas and fellow Scarlet Alec Jenkins. The home nation went ahead inside two minutes courtesy of Thomas'S first try which outside half Rhys Jones converted. However, Scotland, who had made significant change behind the scrum following last weekend's defeat at the hands of france, cut that early lead when right wing Ross Curle slotted a penalty on 11 minutes. Curle missed another shot at goal when Wales were caught offside at a ruck, but despite that setback, they won enough ball to cause the young Dragons numerous problems. Sadly for the visitors, when Wales had the ball they had no answer to the pace of the Wales back line and when Alec Jenkins was sent clear on the right flank, Thomas appeared on his shoulder to add his second of the night. Jones converted, but missed out on a third after livewire scrum half Robert Lewis picked up from a five metre scrum for a third Welsh try of the night. Curle struck the woodwork with his third unsuccessful penalty on 25 minutes and pushed his fourth effort wide of the uprights a minute later. As far as Scottish opportunites went, that was that in the first half. In contrast, Wales, although a touch careless at times, looked capable of scoring at will and three minutes into the second half they improved their 19-3 interval lead when loose head prop Hugh Gustafson was driven over from a line out. Jones converted and having rung the changes, coaches Justin Burnell and Dai Young saw their side claim a fifth try when left wing James Lewis nipped in at the corner for a try Rhys Priestland was unable to improve. Priestland did convert Jenkins's try 15 minutes from time after some wonderful passing behind left the Scottish back line chasing shadows. Wales had to play the final 10 minutes without lock Lou Reed who was yellow carded for killing the ball inside his own 22, but by then, the hosts were home and dry. They did add a seventh try for good measure - Priestland delaying his pass perfectly to allow Jenkins to race over unopposed before Scotland bagged a late consolation try from Patrick McArthur. But Wales had the last laugh when James Lewis brushed off two tackles on the right flank for his side's eighth and final try. Scorers Wales
