Coach Dai Rees' team defeated Portugal 17-14 on Friday, then added an easy 29-0 Pool C win over China.

But in the group decider the Springboks took vengeance for their dramatic Plate final defeat to Wales at the Commonwealth Games, triumphing 21-17.

Wales came back from an early deficit, but could not overhaul the Boks who now face a quarter-final with Argentina.

There are three more Sevens events to come this season, but this is the last one Wales will compete in.
