An age old rugby rivalry has been rekindled as the semi final draw of the Konica Minolta Welsh Cup drew together Pontypridd and Cardiff. The two clubs may be uncomfortable supposed regional bedfellows, but the bitter local rivalry still prevails...The semi final tie will be played on the weekend of 22nd April, either on the Friday evening or the Sunday afternoon, at a neutral venue to be decided. The other semi final has brought together Neath and Maesteg. Whilst attention has focused briefly on the cup draw, the Ponty squad must put thoughts of that event on the back burner as they face up to a vital home league engagement against Bridgend on Wednesday evening 5th April, the game kicking off at 7:15 pm. A premiership battle between the clubs claiming fourth and second place in the table will need no hyping up in its introduction, the league points on offer are of the utmost importance to both combatants. Ponty's once lengthy injury list is clearing up nicely leading up to the Bridgend game, the only remaining doubts being centre Dafydd Lockyer, just about recovered from a broken hand, prop Ryan Harford with a shoulder strain, and lock Chris Martenko with stitches on a head wound. Centre Gavin Dacey makes the starting line up, having got over a niggling hamstring strain, whilst scrum half Ryan Harris comes in on permit from Merthyr, in place of Tom Dickens who is unavailable due to college commitments. Amongst the forwards, lock Grant Harrington is given a chance to impress, with flanker Rhys Shellard returning from sevens duties with the Wales squad. The Pontypridd team selected to face Bridgend on Wednesday evening is as follows: 15.Jason Pocock. 14.Darren Berry. 13.Gavin Dacey. 12.Tom Riley. 11.Chris Clayton. 10.Dai Flanagan. 9.Ryan Harris. 1.Gerald Cox. 2.LeightonDavies. 3.Scott Roberts. 4.Dale McIntosh - cpt. 5.Grant Harrington. 6.Lee Evans. 7.Rhys Shellard. 8.Nathan Strong.
