Maesteg 21 : 16 Pontypridd - League Woes?
Written by John
Sunday, 01 April 2007

Pontypridd failed to secure top place in a vital and necessary win away to Maesteg. In what should have been a clear cut win, once again the Pontypridd squad seemed to be in bed as a desparate Maesteg try to drag themselves up from the bottom of the league table.

Nevertheless, Neath lost and Ebbw Vale drew meaning the title is still there for the taking. Let's just hope the Pontypridd boys remember why they bother putting on the jersey in the morning.

OK lets get our heads back up after going out of the cup, the league is still on and our youth are doing well, so let's get out and support them...

For once the Youth fixture is not clashing with the senior teams game, lets lend our youngsters the 16th man and give them a taste of a roaring House of Pain as they face an older and bigger team from the USA as they face California Universities Cal Poly at Sardis Road this Friday 30th March, KO 7.15pm...

YOUTH Aberdare 15 – 13 Pontypridd

Pontypridd youth travelled to high-flying Aberdare for a friendly fixture on Saturday. Aberdare are three divisions above Ponty and are currently top of their division, with an unbeaten league record. In fact Aberdare have only lost two of their 25 fixtures to date this season, so Ponty knew they faced a real challenge.

Cup Woes - Llanelli 37 - 30 Pontypridd
Written by John
Sunday, 25 March 2007

Image
Dreams of a third consequetive Cup isit to the Millenium Stadium went down in flames as Pontypridd lost away to Stradey's Scarlets. A sometimes thrilling, but otherwise controversial game saw three yellow cards handed out in the second half and ran to 86 minutes in playing time. But most problematic, was the Llanelli try in the dying minutes of the first half which to my eye, could not have possibly grounded.

Nevertheless, drawing Llanelli at home was going to be an uphill struggle for any team, and the short straw was painted black and white. There are going to be some hard questions asked of some of the player's defense, and a worrying problem in that there is not a consistent second kicker in the side. These will have to be worked on for next season, and let's be honest....there will be some vacancies in the ranks for wholesale changes thanks to the Pound Signs from out West.

At least the passion of Nathan Strong pulled the team up with heads held high. It might have been a final consolation try, but it was the best one of the match!

In a game that could have been won, Ponty came an extremely close second but the league is still there for the taking.  But the bogeyman in Scarlet still has a stranglehold over Sardis Road for another Cup season.
