Tabloid Journalism Dissolves Wales' Passion
Written by John
Friday, 03 February 2006

The countdown to the 2006 Six Nations has firmly begun. I attended a BBC Radio Five Live Six Nations preview at Sardis Road last night and had much frivolity. Invariably, the actual broadcast was a trimmed version of the conversations that went on, but very valid points were raised.  The media would love to put down Wales, and at the same time triumph over adversity. I have a very similar feeling to the way last year's tournament kicked off, and quite possibly history could repeat itself.

Six Nations Preview @ Sardis Road

The Sardis faithful were out in style tonight as BBC Radio Five Live came down to Pontypridd RFC to get real rugby fans anticipation to the upcoming 6 Nations tournament, starting Saturday at Twickers with England V Wales. Good support was there, with fans giving views on the strongest and weakest links in Wales' armoury, as well as offering a guess at who'll win, and who'll lose. Not to mention the fabulous legacy that Pontypridd have left in the current Wales squad in the form of Sidoli, Owen and Williams.

The most memorable moments came when Pontypridd RFC Chief Exec Stephen Reardon letting slip about his yacht and Aston Martin (something smelled of a rat there...). A good time was had by all, even if Olé Olé had the Ponty substituted for Cymru!

And a huge thanks goes out to Ponty stars Wayne Evans and Tom Riley for being such nice chaps while they drank their squash (there descipline in there!) with the TeamPonty crew yapping in their ears.

Second Place Should Not Be Difficult

Principality Premiership
Looking at the hotly contested 2nd to 4th positions on the table actually fills me with a lot of hope. Why you ask? Pontypridd have had a few iffy performances over the season, but we have consistently managed to win a lot of tough games. But we have other advantages...
