Relegation for Premiership Clubs
Written by John
Tuesday, 09 May 2006
The WRU have put out a statement indicating that regardless of the finishing position in the Principality Premiership this season, some clubs will be booted out or prevented going up purely on the status of their grounds. A copy of the statement is printed on the Ebbw Vale website (incidentally, Ebbw Vale passed the WRU's ground tests).

The statment reads;

DEWAR SHIELD UNDER 15'S DISTRICTS RUGBY FINAL

PONTYPRIDD V RHONDDA

Llandovery, Saturday 13 May 2006, kick off 2pm

This is the premier districts competition in Wales and that Ponty district have got there along with Rhondda, is a huge success for Valleys rugby... It's sends a huge statement to the WRU about the potential in the area they have ignored and it's the fifth time in seven years that Rhondda have reached the final...

The Clash of the Titans
Written by John
Thursday, 04 May 2006
(or David and Goliath...depends who you talk to...)

Time is short. The troops are ready for battle. To commit to the glory of quashing the uprising from the West. To restore Rugby to its rightful place at the foot of the Valleys, on its throne at Sardis Road. The field of battle: The Millennium Stadium.

The Generals in command are aware of the necessity of a vital warrior. Only known in myth as the 16th Man, it comes in many guises (although usually as a bunch a sweaty, screaming Ponty Patriots), but it is never-the-less a vital component. For this honour, you must pledge a sum of £10, march in force and numbers to Sardis Road. Lay your gold (or paper) on the table and demand seats in the hills of fury (on the halfway line if they have them), and swell the numbers of the 16th Man. Bring your family. Bring your neighbours. Bring complete strangers. Only don't resort to kidnapping.

Time is short. Your team needs you. You know what you must do. C-Day: 06/05/2006, 18:00GMT.

The Pontypridd Club House is open 7-9pm for tickets, or from ticket booths on the day. £10 Adults, £5 Juniors.

Match Result: Still at Third
Written by John
Saturday, 29 April 2006

Rugby Result: Glam Wanderers 34 : 37 Pontypridd. Full-time. This game was too close.

First half was a try festival that reminded me of an afternoon at Wimbledon. Wanderers managed to maintain the lead all the way through until 10 minutes till the end of the match when a nerve biting try added to Dai Flanigan's penalty nailed the narrow 3 point lead.

Fast paced and frenetic, but with plenty of mistakes from both teams.  Pontypridd have to consolidate and knuckle in preparation for the Cup final against Neath next week. The battle for third has dropped back to contesting places between Aberavon and Pontypridd as Llanelli fell to Landovery at home. Pontypridd's excellent try count has ensured that for today at least, they are still taking bronze.
