YOUTH RUGBYCaerleon 0 – 54 Pontypridd Saturday 21st April saw the upstarts travel to Caerleon for a friendly. Caerleon are currently in Division four of the Dragons area league, some five divisions above young Ponty, but are having a difficult season, so the upstarts were hopeful of adding another higher division scalp to this seasons playing record. Pontypridd End League Dream |
|

In what was always going to be a tough match, Pontypridd's League dream went up in smoke in a nail biting home game. And to be fair, the boys played well having the disadvantage of Nigel Whitehouse as a referee who seems to have a dislike for the House of Pain. Neath on the other hand have won the league for the third time in a row. Injury time seemed to go on for an age (and the clock read at least 10 minutes extra time), giving Neath the chance to drop a goal that put them 2 points ahead. It looks as though the WRU are impervious to IRB diktat of keeping the game times to a minimum. But besides this, there was nothing else that could have fared Pontypridd better. Both sides missed a couple of kicks, and both sides desperately wanted the win. Lady luck was just not wearing the Ponty strip. Not that she was wearing the Neath strip either, unlike Mr Whitehouse. The Time of Reckoning is at Hand |

So it comes to this. Three games to play, and three games to win in order to finish in the top slot of the Principality Rugby Division. And three tough games to boot. Will Pontypridd set the record straight? Will the recent bad form become a thing of the past. Maybe and maybe not. Something tells me that the former Pontypridd players who took us to cup glory last year with have more to play than ever before.
The squad the Pontypridd will field today is filled with talent. The likes of Flanigan, Wayne Evans and Tom Riley will couple with the ferocity of Rhys Shellard, who plays hid first match since Decmember in a black and white strip. These players are going through the ranks to professional status with the Blues, and we have a rare opertunity to get arguably the best Pontypridd squad since the Warriors folded onto the pitch today.
